Decent Energy’s co-founders feature on the For the Love of Weather Podcast
Our co-founders Tom and Sally recently sat down with Gemma and Aisling from For the Love of Weather podcast.

Our co-founders Tom Cox and Sally Sattary recently joined Gemma and Aisling from the For the Love of Weather to chat all things Shîfter, batteries, weather, carbon and how homes can use energy more intelligently. 🌦️🌈
The conversation explored how renewable energy, weather patterns, and household energy use are becoming increasingly connected, and why the timing of when we use electricity is just as important as how much we use.
One of the key themes throughout the episode was accessibility. As Sally explained, many people want to make greener choices and reduce their carbon footprint, but everyday life is busy. Between work, family, finances, and everything else competing for attention, constantly thinking about the “best” time to use energy just isn’t realistic for most households.
That’s exactly why we built Shîfter – it works in the background to help homes automatically use cheaper, lower-carbon electricity by intelligently managing battery storage around changes in grid price and carbon intensity. The goal is simple: reduce energy bills, maximise renewable energy usage, and remove the need for constant behaviour change.
During the episode, Tom and Sally also discussed:
- Why renewable energy can sometimes go unused on the grid
- How batteries can help store cleaner energy for later use
- The relationship between weather and energy demand
- The future potential of EVs, heat pumps, and peer-to-peer energy trading
- Why making energy systems smarter could play a major role in tackling fuel poverty and decarbonisation
